Cigars are not like cigarettes. They deliver a different
level of pleasure and satisfaction.
Those who don't know frequently paint cigars with the same brush as cigarettes.
Comparing fine, hand made cigars to cigarettes is like comparing a fine Napa
Cabernet wine to Moonshine:
The tobacco is not the same. Cigars are alkaline, pH7+, cigarettes are acidic.
Cigarette tobacco is flue-cured, a rapid drying process that preserves glucose,
fructose, sucrose and other sugars in the leaf. Cigar tobacco is air-dried,
which is much slower, and also is put through a fermentation process. As a
result, the natural sugars degrade and are barely detectable, and the level
of nicotine is much lower.
Method of use is different. Cigars are not inhaled.
Quantity used is different. The multitudes of users smoke one or two a week,
maybe one or two a month. Average among regular smokers is six per week. That’s
all!
Demographics are different. The average age of entry is 30. So we don’t
sell to kids. And we really don’t sell to women, despite some exceptions.
Cigar smoking is not habit forming. People do it because it’s one of
the great pleasures of life.
